1978 - Whitman-Walker Clinic
Foundation of the Whitman-Walker Clinic, a local HIV/AIDS and STD’s clinic. In the late 1980’s Whitman-Walker Clinic created a program to reach the Latino LGBTQ community.

1979 - First National March
The First National March for Gay and Lesbian Rights in Washington, D.C. In this March Latinas/os from across the country participated in the march The Advocated magazine estimated that more than 100,000 participated in this march.

1983 - La Clinica Del Pueblo
Foundation of La Clinica Del Pueblo, LCDP designed many programs and services.

1983 - NAPWA
Foundation of the National Association of People with AIDS (NAPWA) in Washington, DC. NAPWA advocated for people infected and affected by the AIDS epidemic. In the late 1980’s NAPWA created bilingual programs to educate Latinos LGBTQ.

Foundation of Salud, Inc. Salud was a DC Latino organization that provided a variety programs related to HIV/AIDS.

The Washington, DC Metropolitan Area Lesbian and Gay Latino (a) Coalition was founded in the DC area to work with political, social, educational and cultural issues.

1988 - “Coming Out” Party
ENLACE Inc. held a community reception “Coming Out” party from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the Office of Latino Affairs (OLA), at the Reeves Center in 14 Street and U Street.

Nov. 1988 - First bilingual newsletter
ENLACE published the first bilingual newsletter entitled “Noticias de ENLACE”. The newsletter contain experiences of Latinas/os LGBTQ.

The National Latina/o Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Organization (LLEGO) was incorporated as 501c3 in Washington, DC.

National LLEGO published the first newsletter produced and edited by Amparo Jimenez.

1990 - Bar El Faro
Bar El Faro open the doors in Adams Morgan. El Faro was the first Latino LGBTQ bar in Washington, DC.

1991 - Miss Gay Hispanic
ENLACE organized the contest Miss Gay Hispanic. In the contest competed 4 contestants and the winner was Sophia Carrero. In 2002 the contest stop operating.

1991 - First bilingual hotline
ENLACE, in partnership with the Whitman-Walker Clinic, established the first bilingual (Spanish-English) Hotline “Hola Gay”. The hotline operated every Thursday from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm.

Jose Ucles won the leather title of Mr. American Leatherman in Washington, D.C. During his title year, Jose organized fundraisings for different organizations in Washington, D.C.
